A Renaissance Garden in San Quirico D’orcia

Residence in Asciano, Italy

Tucked away in the hills outside the town of Asciano in Tuscany, this historic property has the perfect combination of seclusion and openness. In the new plan for the restored residence, McCobb created a linear garden which begins at a redesigned entrance driveway and parking area. A native pea stone path takes one through a series of spaces, each defined by native Leccio (Oak) hedges. A travertine stone reflecting pool serves as a focal point for an entertaining area. A clipped boxwood parterre forms a path that leads to an expansive open lawn. Boxwood and Leccios line this greensward and funnel the visitor’s eye down to the pool and the rolling hills beyond.
